What is the reason behind when we are told a non-meat diet is more healthy?

Let us look at why we should reduce the intake of meat and fish. According to modern nutritionists:

Fish and meat usually contain less fibrous matter and continuous intake of such food may be detrimental to the digestive system.

Every year, heart disease and cancer are ranked as one of the top silent killers. These diseases are usually linked to diets which are high in calories (meat), high in saturated fat (meat) and low in fibre (meat).

Agricultural animals are sometimes injected with antibiotics and hormones to keep them alive and to make them grow. These harmful and poisonous substances are absorbed into our bodies when we eat them.

The urine of meat-eaters is very acidic and this will cause pre-mature aging and weakening of the bones.

According to nutritional experts from Japan, the death and aging of one’s cells and the high acid levels in our bodies are the main culprits behind chronic diseases like cancer.

Though meat give us protein, our body does not require alot of protein for energy. Our body first uses glucose from fruits, vegetables, then starch, then fat and last thing it ever uses for energy is protein. How much protein intake is recommended?

World Health Organization of the UN = 4.5%
Food and Nutrition Board of the U.S.D.A = 6%
National Research Council = 8%

Excess protein in our body produces excess nitrogen which causes fatigue. Body builders all pumped up with protein are not known for their marathon-running abilities as they are too tired. Too much protein has been linked to continuous to osteoporosis, the softening and weakening of bones.

Meat contain high levels of uric acid. Uric acid is one of the body's waste or excretory products resulting from the work of living cells. Our kidneys extract uric acid from the bloodstream and send it on to the bladder to be passed out with as urine. If uric acid is not properly and thoroughly removed from the blood, the excess builds up in the tissue of the body and later create gout or bladder stones. People with leukemia are usually found to have very high level of uric acid in their bloodstream.

Look at the diet advice given by doctor for gout patient.

"Avoid food high in purine as it increase the uric acid levels in the blood. Drink plenty of fluid unless contraindicated"

Under the list of food items, it include all internal organ of animals and birds, black chicken, venison, gravies, anchovies, prawns, sardines, salmon, certain vegetables such as spinach, peas, peanut, bean products, certain fruits such as durian, tomato, strawberries, alcohol, red meat, fish, white meat, mushroom, wheat, asparagus etc.

Look at the food restriction list and you wouldn't want to be a gout patient. Therefore, it is important to eat moderately, have a balance diet, less acid food, reduce or eliminate intake of processed fats, avoid refined, devitalized, frozen, canned food and eat organic whenever possible. Prevention is better than cure.

Research shows the cause of disease related to diet are 68%. Some of the diseases can be prevented, improved and sometime cured by observing a low-fat diet free of animal products include arthritis, asthma, breast cancer, colon cancer, constipation, diabetes, gall-stone, heart disease, hypertension, impotence, kidney disease, obesity, osteoporosis, peptic ulcers, prostate cancer, strokes and trichinosis.

There are early stage cancer patients who change their diet to organic food and found themselves cancer-free after some time.

Animal protein also has a high content of cholesterol. Accumulation of cholesterol inside the blood vessels will obstruct the flow of blood causing myocardial infarction (heart attack) infarction and brain hemorrhage. As more acidic food is consumed the blood become too acidic, increasing its viscosity. The blood flowing through the capillaries will be reduce and leading to blood clots in the feet and hands, rigid shoulders and insomnia.

The more cholesterol is consumed, the slower the flow of the blood. This means the heart will have to pump harder to increase the blood circulation resulting in increased blood pressure, which can lead to hypertension.

If you can't abstain from meat, one way to help solve this problem is to consume more vegetable, which are considered helpful in maintaining the body's alkaline quality. Vegetable is rich in vitamins and organic matter, fiber and all kinds of enzymes.
